KCUMB recently named G. Michael Johnston, D.O. (COM '73), MACOI, as vice dean of the College of Osteopathic Medicine. As vice dean, Dr. Johnston facilitates coordination between disciplines within the College of Osteopathic Medicine, promotes strategic thinking and continues to enhance the quality of the student experience.
Dr. Johnston has served our University since 2000. His most recent appointment was as interim dean of the College of Osteopathic Medicine, while we conducted a national search to fill the position. He formerly served as senior assistant dean for clinical education, as well as regional dean for the Kansas City region.
Dr. Johnston is a member of the Class of 1973 and performed a rotating internship and residency in internal medicine at Kansas City College of Osteopathic Medicine.
He is recognized as a leader and an outstanding clinician throughout osteopathic professional organizations. He was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award by Ingram's Magazine in 2010. The American College of Osteopathic Internists (ACOI) has recognized him as a master fellow and, in 2001, named him Internist of the Year.
We are grateful for Dr. Johnston’s ongoing service to our institution, our faculty and our students. He consistently demonstrates his commitment and dedication to KCUMB, and we look forward to his continued service as he takes on these new responsibilities.
