University Expands Health and Wellness Initiatives

Recent initiatives at KCUMB have further emphasized the University’s focus on health and wellness.

This winter, the KCUMB administration distributed Fitbit Flex™ wristbands to all KCUMB employees. Fitbit wristbands track steps, similar to a pedometer, and monitor sleep quality. The wristbands can also be used to help track water or food intake.

To help employees understand the benefits of these devices, the University issued a challenge to all employees to track and increase physical activity as a part of the KCUMB Fitbit Challenge. A team competition, the Fitbit Challenge took place March 10-24 and included more than 100 employees.

The Fitbit Challenge was an overwhelming success, with:

  • Participation by nine beginner teams and six pro teams
  • More than 13 million steps taken collectively in just two weeks
  • More than 1.5 million steps walked by the winning pro team, surpassing the pro team goal of 1 million steps
  • More than 906,000 steps walked by the winning beginner team, surpassing the beginner team goal of 500,000 steps
