University Sets a New Course for Future Research, Shifts Focus to Translational Research and Collaboration

In a concerted effort to elevate our institution’s standing among those in the Kansas City research community and beyond, we recently announced a fundamental shift in our research operations to focus on advancing the scientific exploration of biomedical and translational research.

The shift in strategic direction marks an important step toward achieving KCUMB’s strategic goal of enhancing research activity and positioning the University as a magnet for students pursuing degrees in the biomedical sciences. It also provides us with additional opportunities to collaborate with colleagues at the University of Kansas Medical Center, the University of Missouri-Kansas City, Children’s Mercy Hospital and other key stakeholders in the Kansas City Area Life Sciences Institute.

With this change, we will make significant, long-term investments that will be transformative, including:
  • Recruiting an internationally recognized investigator and team
  • Expanding laboratory space on campus
  • Establishing a scientific core in the neurosciences
  • Purchasing state-of-the-art equipment that benefits both investigators and the entire University community
As a result of this shift, KCUMB will no longer pursue industry-sponsored clinical trials. We are currently working to transition our existing industry-sponsored clinical trials to other providers.
