KCU Hosts Choice Neighborhoods Initiative Meeting

Kansas City Mayor Sly James
Leaders from Kansas City’s municipal government, school district, local nonprofit organizations and others met Dec. 4 at the Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences (KCU) to discuss how they could work together to create a brighter future for the Paseo Gateway area. The meeting, geared toward applying for up to $30 million in federal funding for revitalizing the neighborhood, took place in the Butterworth Alumni Center.

The Paseo Gateway area, near the KCU campus, was selected by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) as the recipient of a Choice Neighborhoods Initiative planning grant. The goal of the initiative is to use the transformation of public housing – in this case, the Chouteau Courts public housing complex – as a catalyst for improving the quality of life for both public housing residents and those living in surrounding neighborhoods.
