KCU Joins Joplin Leaders To Announce New Medical School Site

Leadership from KCU joined Joplin, Mo., business and civic leaders at a gathering April 21 to announce plans for KCU’s second medical school location there. The event, held at Mercy Hospital Joplin’s former, temporary facility — soon to be the home of KCU Joplin, thanks to the health system’s generous donation — provided an opportunity for community members to ask questions and served as the official kick-off for fundraising efforts.

Thus far, the Joplin community and its medical providers, through the Joplin Regional Medical School Alliance, have pledged $30 million to assist in the development of the Joplin campus, including a multi-million-dollar commitment from Freeman Health System. Both Mercy and Freeman will provide clinical education and help develop a new graduate medical education program for the school.

KCU Joplin will be transformative for the region, as well as for our university, and will help address the growing need for physicians in rural America. The new school will welcome its inaugural class of 150 students in the fall of 2017.
