First Lecture in Bioethics Speaker Series Addresses Medical Marijuana Debate

KCU, in collaboration with the Center for Practical Bioethics (CPB), on August 13 welcomed guest lecturer David J. Casarett, MD, associate professor of medicine, University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine, and director of hospice and palliative care, University of Pennsylvania Health System. Dr. Casarett presented "Is Marijuana Medicine?" — the first lecture in "Current Issues in Bioethics: 2015-2016."

The series, which invites both national and local leaders in the field of bioethics, will feature four speakers in the fall of 2015 and four speakers in the spring of 2016. Lecturers will speak to KCU, CPB, the University of Kansas and the University of Missouri-Kansas City. All lectures will be live-streamed to the KCU YouTube channel.

The next lecture, scheduled for 11 a.m. Friday, September 25, in KCU's Academic Center, will feature Richard Payne, MD, Esther Colliflower professor of medicine and divinity, Duke Divinity School, Durham, N.C., who will present "Obligation to Treat Pain."
