Two brave members of the Kansas
City Fire Department lost their lives Monday night fighting a fire, just blocks
from the Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences campus on Independence Avenue.
KCU is blessed that our campus and neighborhood are protected by
fearless and tireless members of our own Department of Safety and Emergency
Management, the Kansas City Police Department and the Kansas City Fire
Department.
In memory of 43-year-old
Larry J. Leggio, a 17-year department veteran assigned to Truck 2, and
39-year-old John V. Mesh, a 13-year department veteran working on Pumper 10;
and by authority of Governor Nixon, University flags will be flown at
half-mast.
The KCU community keeps these
firefighters' families in our thoughts and prayers and extend our appreciation to all those who risk their lives to protect and improve the well-being of our community.
