Score 1 for Health Receives Grant to Fight Obesity

KCU's Score 1 for Health, a preventative health program for elementary-aged children, has received a two-year grant in the amount of $175,000 from the Healthcare Foundation of Greater Kansas City. The funding will be used to expand CHAMPS (Coaching Health and Movement Program with Students), a pilot program that enlists volunteer medical students as health coaches for children identified as at risk for obesity. In the first year of the pilot program, 28 medical students were trained and 51 children from our community were coached during individual sessions. (learn more)
